§ 2-243. Grants; ad valorem tax levy; special assessments.
(a)
The Habitat Safe Neighborhood Improvement District is authorized to apply for and receive planning grants and/or technical assistance grants from the state department of legal affairs and/or the department of community affairs as authorized by statute or administrative rules of the state department of legal affairs and/or the department of community affairs.
(b)
The district may levy an ad valorem tax of up to two (2) mills annually on real and personal property.
(c)
The district may use special assessments, subject to referendum approval by mail ballot, pursuant to F.S. § 163.514(16) and F.S. § 197.3632, to support planning and implementation of district improvements, including community policing innovations. For the purposes of making such assessments, the terms "municipality" and "governing board of the municipality," as used in said chapter, shall mean the district and the board of directors of the district, respectively.
