§ 2-89.1. Youth council created; composition; qualifications; appointments; terms; vacancies.
(a)
Composition and qualifications. The youth council shall consist of eleven (11) board members. The presence of six (6) members shall constitute a quorum. All board members must reside within the City of Lauderhill city limits, must be currently enrolled in the grades 9 through 12, and be no less than fourteen (14) years old. All board members must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA. In the absence of a 2.5 GPA, interested parties may complete an essay that explains why their GPA is below this requirement, why they feel special consideration should be made on their behalf, and how they plan to raise their GPA to meet this requirement. Interested qualifying students shall complete an application and waiver to be considered to serve as a member.
(b)
Appointments. Each of the four (4) city commissioners shall individually appoint two (2) members to the board. The mayor shall individually appoint two (2) members to the board. The youth council as a whole shall appoint one (1) member to the board once it is formed.
(c)
Terms. Each member shall serve a one-year term, or less if the member transfers or graduates from high school as their term shall automatically expire upon transfer or graduation. Members may re-apply to serve additional subsequent years so long as they remain enrolled within the required grades and maintain a 2.5 GPA.
(d)
Vacancies. Vacancies on the board shall be filled as soon as possible for the period remaining in the unexpired term in the same manner as the original selection of such member. While the vacancy exists, the board may fulfill all required functions with fewer than eleven (11) members, so long as a quorum exists.
