§ 14-74. Procedures and fees for police and/or fire responses to false alarms.

  • (a)

    The alarm user shall be subject to warnings and fees depending on the number of false alarms emitted from an alarm system within any twelve-month period based on the following schedule:

    Number of False Alarms Fee
    First and second alarm No fee
    Third alarm $25.00
    Fourth alarm $50.00
    Fifth and subsequent alarms $100.00

     

    For purposes of the billing schedule above, multi-unit parcels, whether commercial or residential, shall be billed separately to each alarm user based on the alarms per unit. Unpaid bills for false alarms issued between January 1, 2013 and the enactment of this section shall be retroactively credited to be in conformance with the billing schedule above.

    If police respond to a false alarm which is in violation of section 14-72, the above-stated fees shall be doubled.

    This fee schedule shall apply to each alarm user at a particular location.

    (b)

    It is unlawful for any alarm user to refuse or fail to pay any cost assessed for deactivating an alarm pursuant to this section.

    (c)

    It is unlawful for any alarm user to refuse or fail to pay fees or fines associated with the violations of this section.

    (d)

    Fines and fees not paid within thirty (30) days of the billing date will be assessed a ten (10) percent penalty on the outstanding balance. All fines and fees not paid after ninety (90) days will be turned over to a collection agency selected by the city for collection. The violator will be responsible for all costs associated with this action up to and including legal fees.
